Acer website hacked: 34.5K customers' credit card details compromised

Acer website hacked

After an alleged hacking of its website, Acer has issued alerts to 34,500 customers, who used their credit cards to buy Acer products online.

All the users, who made the online purchases last year, are feared to have had their data compromised.

"Based on our records, we have determined that your information may have been affected, potentially including your name, address, card number ending in [insert], expiration date and three-digit security codes. We do not collect Social Security numbers, and we have not identified evidence indicating that password or login credentials were affected," Acer wrote to its customers

Most of the compromised data is from the US, Canada and Puerto Rico.

"We have also contacted and offered our full cooperation to federal law enforcement," said the company’s official note.

Extending its cooperation to the customers the company said: "If you suspect that you are a victim of identity theft or fraud, you have the right to file a police report."

The company also said the customers may contact their State Attorney General’s office or the US Federal Trade Commission to learn more about steps to be taken to protect against identity theft.
