BCCI wants to retain Anil Kumble as coach president shoots letter to secretary Amitabh Chaudhary

After a lot of debate over the head coach post for Indian cricket team, it seems like BCCI is keen on retaining Anil Kumble as chief coach. BCCI acting president CK Khanna shot a letter to Secretary Amitabh Chaudhary to call off the elections till the end of the West Indies tour.

The Committee of Administrators will take the final call.

In a statement to PTI Khanna said, "I have written a letter to the secretary asking him to defer the recruitment process till June 26 when BCCI's SGM will be held. At this point in time, it will not be prudent to carry on with the process when India is playing a tournament."

On Thursday the Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) comprising of Sourav Ganguly, Sachin Tendulkar and VVS Laxman met and discussed the selection of the head coach for the Indian team. But they informed BCCI CEO Rahul Johri that they would need more time.

IPL chairman and senior member of BCCI, Rajeev Shukla, is also against appointing a new coach so soon. He said PTI, "The acting president spoke to senior members, and we are all of the opinion that the matter be placed before the SGM in Mumbai on June 26. Until such time, any recruitment process should be kept on hold. Majority of the members are of the same opinion."

BCCI called for applications for the post of head coach in May. Many claimed that the Indian players, including Captain Virat Kohli, were unhappy with Kumble’s ‘taskmaster’ style of coaching. It is said that Virat Kohli spoke to CAC member Sourav Ganguly about it and also walked off during practice when Anil Kumble arrived.

But Kohli had denied any such tiff, saying: "There are differences of opinion in every walk of life.

So far the applicants have been former India opener Virender Sehwag, ex-India pacer Dodda Ganesh, Afghanistan coach Lalchand Rajput, Richard Pybus and Tom Moody. It is said that Virender Sehwag has the least chance of getting selected. Apparently, his two line CV did not go down well with BCCI, who asked him to submit a proper resume.
