Madras High Court rules in favour of state law providing 7.5% horizontal reservation to students from govt schools in medical examination.

The association said in its plea that it was being pressured by the ministry of information and broadcasting to furnish information within 15 days under Rule 18 of the new Information Technology Rules 2021.

The court, in its directives, suggested comprehensive measures to sensitise the society and various branches of the state, including police and judiciary, to remove prejudices against the LGBTQIA+ community. 

The Apex Court bench comprising Justices DY Chandrachud and MR Shah said that the question of expunging the remarks made by Madras High Court recently against the Election Commission does not arise and that no restriction can be put on media from reporting Court proceedings.

If democracy were to thrive in its truest sense, the sanctity of elections must be inviolable. In doing so, the Election Commission will have to be more robust and impervious to any political attacks or judicial interference or superintendence, observes Om Pathak.

 Days after the Madras High Court castigated the Election Commission over the second wave of coronavirus in India, the poll panel urged the Court to restrict the media from reporting on oral observations.
 

The decision comes a day after the Madras High Court took the Election Commission to task while hearing a suo motu case concerning the management of the Covid situation in Tamil Nadu.

 "Your institution is singularly responsible for the second wave of Covid-19. Election Commission officers should be booked on murder charges probably," the HC observed.

The other prayers of the DMK, represented by its Organisation Secretary R S Bharathi, were to provide CCTV live coverage/web-stream during voting in all the polling booths and voting centers, to install jammers at the strong rooms, where EVMs are stored and at the counting centres.
