A woman identified as Subaida has been arrested by the Malappuram police for her involvement in the death of her 48-year-old husband. Basheer, Subaida’s husband died on April 23 after succumbing to severe burns on his face and body after an acid attack the previous night.

A native of Ummathur, Basheer ran the Malabar Light and Sounds and in his dying declaration mentioned that an unidentified person threw acid on him. He failed to notice the person as he was lying on his bed.

Subaida soon came under the prying eyes of the police as Basheer who was attacked around 11 pm was taken to a hospital in the town only by 1 am. Subaida had initially told the police that the main door of the house was not locked from inside as their son who was studying in Tamil Nadu was to arrive that night. However, on checking the phone call records of Basheer and Subaida, the police came to the conclusion that Subaida herself was the attacker.

According to reports, she told the police that Basheer’s illicit affairs had led her to commit the crime. She had allegedly disposed of the acid can in front of M B H Hospital while taking Basheer to the hospital which the police recovered during the investigation. They are also looking into the possibility of Subaida having received help from someone else to carry out the crime.
