Mosquito menace: Four repellents you are wasting your money on
While there are several mosquito repellents that may actually keep bugs away, there are certain products that do not perform well
Bengaluru: Be it summer or monsoon, the mosquito population keeps rising, and is a growing menace that poses a threat to everyone from new-borns to people in their old age. While there are repellents that keep the bugs away, there are also certain repellents that claim to protect you, but reportedly never do.
Here are four types of mosquito repellents that you need to skip:
1. Wristbands
The wearable repellents are marketed stating that you do not have to rub anything on your body. But what is the point if they do not serve the purpose?
Several tests over the years have proved that the function of certain wristbands are not scientifically proven and could end up being useless when it comes to repelling mosquitoes.
2. Sonic repellents
This type of repellents claim to emit high frequency sounds that are too high for humans to hear, but are just right to drive pests away.
While the companies claim that they work, there is no proof that they actually do.
3. Clip-on repellents
While clip-on repellents may seem like a great idea, they have not been adequately evaluated for their efficiency in keeping away insects and thereby vector-borne diseases.
Moreover, wearable foggers, unlike regular insect repellent sprays, might use contents that are carcinogenic in nature.
4. Citronella candles
Citronella is a naturally occurring oil that repels insects. But they do not seem to be as effective as they claim to be.
While they are one of the most widely used natural repellents in the market, there is no proof that they work.
