The century’s record rain on Monday put life out of gear in Bengaluru. On August 14 and 15 also rains continued further creating havoc in the City. In Viveknagar, the foundation of an apartment building caved in resulting in the building leaning to a side. People ran out of their apartments fearing for their lives. BBMP has taken action to vacate the building, reports Kannada Prabha.

A five-storey building in Vivek Nagar in 20x40 site belonging to one Ramesh which is slowly leaning on to one side has left the residents terrified. Due to this, the neighbouring houses were also facing the danger. As a result, the Palike officials shifted all the 12 families in the neighbourhood to a safer place, reports Kannada Prabha. On Wednesday, at around 3.50 am the building leaned to one side and the workers ran out fearing an earthquake. The big noise made others also run for their lives. A complaint to fire station was made and they shifted the people to a safer place.

BBMP engineer Srinivas said the owner had totally violated the rules. Considering the safety of the houses in the vicinity, the Palike has decided to demolish the house with workers and the cost of it will be borne by the contractor. However, for strange reason, the workers stopped working when minister Ramalinga Reddy visited the spot. He said it was a gross violation of constructing two extra floors without permission. He promised to take action against the officials who permitted construction of ground plus 5 storey building in 20x40 site. Vivek Nagar police have registered a voluntary complaint against the owner.

Meanwhile, people in various localities were still bearing the aftermath of the rain fury. In Ramanna Garden layout, due to deep digging for foundation of a building resulted in New Mission Road caving in by 10 feet. Traffic has been banned on the entire road. In HSR Layout also, people could not come out their houses due to heavy waterlogging. In Koramangala the entire stretch of 80 feet road from Sony World to Venkatapura Road was totally flooded and water from apartments were pumped out. The people from these apartments were rescued by boats the previous day.
