Bengaluru rape: Techie sexually exploits colleague, uploads video on porn site

FollowIn yet another shocking case of female sexual harassment and blackmail, a 26-year-old HR executive at a tech company in Bengaluru attempted suicide after a techie from the same company raped her and uploaded the video on a porn website.
The woman attempted to hang herself on Wednesday, September 6, at her house in KR Puram. Her roommate saved her in the nick of time. After questioning her, she confided her ordeal to her roommate and family member. The woman, along with her friends and family later approached the cops.
Viveknagar police arrested the accused, 28-year-old Arindam Nath, on Friday, September 8, after the survivor filed a case against him. Arindam hails from West Bengal and is a resident of Ejipura in Bengaluru. He has been remanded in judicial custody.
Both worked in a software company near Hebbal. The accused is also involved in a divorce case. His father is a top official in West Bengal government.
The accused was introduced to the survivor, a native of Odisha, two years ago. The two quickly became close. After promising to marry the woman, the accused took her to his Ejipura residence and raped her. He secretly recorded the act on his cellphone, showed the video to her and began blackmailing her. He threatened to upload the video on porn sites if the girl did not visit him whenever he wanted.
The girl gave in to the threats. The woman alleged that Arindam raped her several times and later started demanding money.
The woman said in the complaint that she stopped meeting his demands post which Arindam uploaded the video on a porn website on September 4. Â Reportedly, Arindam also sent the video to her family members demanding for money and threatening to upload the video if the demand was not met.
Arindam confessed to have uploaded the video to the police. Arindam has been booked under section 376 (punishment for rape), 384 (punishment for extortion) and 506 (punishment for criminal intimidation) of IPC, and section 66E (punishment for violation of privacy) and other relevant sections of the Information Technology Act.
The cybercrime police have deleted the video from the website.
