Maharashtra records 8,807 new COVID cases, night curfew to be imposed in Solapur district
The state registered 8,807 new coronavirus cases and 80 deaths in a span of 24 hours. The numbers are significantly higher compared to Tuesday when the state had recorded 6,218 new infections.
Maharashtra reported a significant jump in new Covid-19 cases and fatalities on Wednesday, continuing with the rise that started 10 days ago.
The state registered 8,807 new coronavirus cases and 80 deaths in a span of 24 hours. The numbers are significantly higher compared to Tuesday when the state had recorded 6,218 new infections.
As many as 2,772 people were discharged, taking the total number of recoveries in state to 2,008,623, and 51 people died of the disease in 24 hours, taking the death toll to 51,857, the health department said.
The Covid-19 situation in Maharashtra has been an area of concern for the Centre and various other states which have imposed travel restrictions on people coming from there.
A night curfew will be imposed in Maharashtra's Solapur district from Thursday (February 25). The night curfew will be imposed from February 25 till March 7.
Meanwhile, the district administration in Maharashtra's Latur has decided to implement 'Janata curfew' on February 27 and 28 in view of the rising Covid-19 cases.
