West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Saturday (March 27) urged people of the state to vote in large numbers as the first phase of the assembly polls begins in the state.  

The Supreme Court on Friday (March 26) granted relief to Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee’s Nandigram election agent SK Supian.  

The Trinamool Congress approached the Election Commission fearing unrest on the day of polling in East Midnapore. On Friday (March 26) afternoon, Trinamool MP Kakali Ghosh Dastidar and Derek O’ Brien went to the Election Commission office and complained in a letter.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has summoned Anup Majhi in connection to illegal coal scam case in West Bengal.

In Assam, 47 Assembly seats are going to polls, with 264 candidates in the fray. Voting is being held today in 30 of Bengal’s 294 Assembly seats.

The hanging body of a BJP worker was recovered in Shalbani before the first round of voting in West Bengal. The name of the deceased is Lal Mohan Soren. The BJP claimed that Lal Mohan Soren was killed and hung from a jamun tree allegedly by miscreants of the Trinamool Congress.

"I give you a guarantee that after five years you will not find anyone indulging in 'land jihad' in the state." said the BJP leader.

A TMC worker was killed in Baruipur of South 24-Parganas district after clash broke out between members of opposition alliance CPI(M) and Indian Secular Front (ISF).

The Supreme Court said that fresh electoral bonds can be issued from April 1. The decision was based on the Election Commission’s argument that it approved the use of the bonds since, without it, political parties would deal in hard cash.

BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari scoffed at the Trinamool Congress after one of its leaders said that “four Pakistan can be created if India's 30 percent Muslims unite.” Adhikari complained that the Trinamool is an anti-national party. With that, the BJP candidate from Nandigram slammed Mamata Banerjee brazen appeasement politics over the last 10 years.
