Zomato co-founder Gaurav Gupta quits, says 'it's time to pursue different road'

Gaurav Gupta, the creator of Zomato and one of the key movers behind the food delivery company's historic initial public offering (IPO) earlier this year, resigned on Tuesday. Gupta, who joined Zomato in 2015, was named Chief Operating Officer in 2018 and became the founder in 2019. His departure comes only days after Zomato announced the closure of its grocery delivery and nutraceutical businesses.
Gupta said in an email to his Zomato team members and coworkers on Tuesday, "I couldn't have asked for more - I am so happy for all the experiences I have had and appreciative to all the individuals around me for helping me become a lot better person."
"We now have a wonderful team to take Zomato forward, and it is time for me to pursue a different road in my journey," he added. Gupta reminisced warmly. He was the meal delivery startup's chief of supply.

In terms of future plans, Gupta stated that he would be taking a new direction in my life and beginning a new chapter, drawing a lot from this defining chapter of my life.
The news comes only a day after Zomato said that it would discontinue its grocery delivery service on September 17 due to gaps in order fulfilment, which resulted in a bad customer experience. Zomato's mammoth initial public offering was announced two months ago. However, the business recorded a net loss of $ 356 crore for the quarter ended June 30, 2021. The company's overall income for the quarter under review was Rs 916 crore. The number of delivery increased substantially during the Covid-19 pandemic, driving income to soar.
