Elon Musk's satellite internet subsidiary, Starlink, has established a presence in India. Starlink Satellite Communications Private Limited, the company's India affiliate, will allow the satellite Internet provider to proceed with regulatory procedures to operate in the nation.  Sanjay Bhargava, Starlink India's country director, revealed the news in a LinkedIn post. He wrote he is pleased to announce that SpaceX now has a 100 per cent subsidiary in India. He stated that the company's name is SSCPL - Starlink Satellite Communications Private Limited, and it was established on November 1, 2021. He added that they would now apply for licences, create bank accounts.

Having a local unit allows the corporation to seek government permits required before it can deliver broadband and other satellite-based communication services. According to the corporate filing, Starlink intends to "carry on the business of telecommunication services" in India, including satellite broadband internet services, content storage and streaming, and multi-media communication, among other things.

According to the company, it will also sell satellite phones, network equipment, wired and wireless communication devices, and data transmission and receiving equipment.
Starlink, on its own, stated that it would use its broadband services to "catalyse rural development" in India. Once it is authorised to provide services, Starlink will distribute 100 gadgets for free to schools in Delhi and surrounding rural regions in the first phase. It will, after that, focus on 12 rural districts in India.

The company intends to have 200,000 Starlink devices in India by December 2022, with 80 percent in rural regions. It has already received over 5,000 pre-orders in India. For months, SpaceX has been intensively testing Starlink satellite internet. According to Speedtest Intelligence statistics from earlier this year, Starlink satellite broadband provides an average of 97.23Mbps download speeds and 13.89Mbps upload rates in the United States. In the United States, wired broadband average download speeds are approximately 115.22Mbps and upload rates are around 17.18Mbps.
