It is a symbolic and old ritual, that has been retained and observed for ages, by the trading community and was first introduced by the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) when it reserved an hour on Diwali for stock trading in 1957.
The Indian leading stock exchanges BSE and NSE believe Diwali is a very special and auspicious time for the stock market. Despite the market being closed on the festival day, the Muhurat Trading session on Diwali will take place for one hour where investors are given a window to engage in trading.
The Muhurat trading is practised to commemorate the start of the new Samvat 2078 -- the Hindu calendar year that starts on Diwali and is set to be held between 6:15 pm to 7:15 pm on November 4, Thursday.
Before the hour-long session takes place, a window from 5:45 pm to 6 pm has been reserved for the block deal session. This will be followed by the pre-open session between 6 pm and 6:08 pm. However, the exchanges will remain closed on November 5 on the occasion of Diwali Balipratipada.

As and when the Muhurat trading time window opens, the market is less volatile as traders prefer to buy stocks rather than sell them and investors can make a token purchase of an initial investment that can give them a decent return and bring prosperity.
