Bengaluru: According to a report by Quess Corp company Monster.com there has been a slight uptick in job posting activity in August 2021 and employment activity in Bengaluru increased the most (59%) year-on-year, primarily driven by the demand of IT workers.

Pune followed the IT capital with an increase in hiring of 40%, 37% in Chennai, 34% in Hyderabad, 16% in Mumbai and 14% in Delhi. Cities that showed negative hiring trends were Kochi, Kolkata, Chandigarh and Jaipur.

Although the rate of increase is only 1%, there is no sharp increase from the previous month, overall job postings have improved by 14% year-on-year (August 2021 vs August 2020), indicating a strong recovery in the pipeline.

Among tier-2 cities, Coimbatore showed the most promise for new job listings. Job demand records a sequential growth of 5 percent in last six months, despite the impact of the second wave of the pandemic.

Outside of IT hiring, industries such as Garments/ Textiles/ Leather, Gems & Jewellery (24%) and Production and Manufacturing (8%) grow at a considerable pace due to seasonal hiring demands with the onset of the festive season (Aug 2021 vs July 2021).

Meanwhile, BFSI was the next hot sector with a 33% increase following the IT sector. This was followed by a year-on-year increase in finance and accounting work across the city by 11%, according to a Monster report.

However, sectors that showed negative hiring trends were oil and gas, shipping and BPOs. The slowest growth in terms of hiring was seen in industries such as engineering, cement, construction, FMCG, logistics and freight transportation.

Additionally, Marketing and Communication (17%) witnessed the highest month-on-month growth, largely observed in metro cities in terms of functions.

The role of top management was touted 70% more than last year-most companies show that their ladders were rocking. And when it came to hirings, it wasn't freshers but senior management roles profiles that are seeing the largest recruitment drive.

“India has recovered from the second wave of the pandemic, and job vacancies in August 2021 have seen stable and positive growth. In addition, due to imminent demand for festivals and seasons, employment activity will increase in the coming months. We expect it to flourish. We’ve already seen it in the textile and manufacturing industries,” said Sekhar Garisa, CEO of Monster.com, the report quoted.
