River Cauvery swells in Kodagu; Death toll rises to 7 in Dakshina Kannada

More than 10 districts were affected due to flooding in Dakshina Kannada. The death toll in rain-related incidents reached seven while water levels rose in Shivamogga, Belagavi and Haveri districts

Bengaluru: Heavy rains and gusty winds lashed several parts of Karnataka on Tuesday (August 6). Consistent downpour has wreaked havoc in the state.

Earlier, reports had stated that three people, one each from Shivamogga, Haveri and Belagavi lost their lives in rain-related incidents. However, media reports claimed that the death toll had gone up to seven.

Schools and colleges continued to remain shut in Kodagu, following a red alert in the district. The residents of Virajpet and Kodagu witnessed landslides and heavy rain on Tuesday and Wednesday.

While Virajpet and Somwarpet subdivisions has received 1,212 mm and 707 mm rainfall respectively since January, Madikeri alone has received 1,556 mm rain till August 6 this year.
