To ensure that Bengaluru water bodies do not get polluted, and the Ganesh festival becomes more eco-friendly, the BBMP had raided 15 places and seized 150-odd PoP Ganesha idols. To bring in more discipline among manufacturers, sellers and buyers, BBMP has come with Rs 10,000 penalty for offenders

Bengaluru: The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) will make you cough up a fine Rs 10,000 for keeping Ganesha idols that are made of Plaster of Paris (PoP). With a number of lakes getting polluted in Bengaluru during Ganesha festival due to idol immersion and other pooja items, the BBMP has come up with temporary immersion points within lakes and also deputed many mobile tankers. With complaints of PoP Ganesha idols poisoning lakes, this time the BBMP has not only conducting raids at manufacturing units and selling points but also will  impose Rs 10,000 as penalty.
