COVID-19 case in neighbouring ward sends Bengaluru’s DJ Halli into panic mode

After a woman tested positive for COVID-19 in a neighbouring ward, rumours of cases in DJ Halli set off panic among residents.

DJ Halli has the highest numbers of small shops in Bengaluru. It also has a cluster of daily wage workers, domestic helps as part of its dense population. The area which seemed to be doing fine for several days, saw a change in the behaviour of its residents after rumours about coronavirus spreading from SK Garden reached their ears. So much so that the BBMP commissioner had to clarify and dismiss rumours.

Following a request from the MLA of the area who brought to notice that rumours were being spread that DJ Halli is likely to witness an outbreak, the BBMP Commissioner intervened. The BBMP commissioner said, like in the case of Padarayapura where only Arafat Layout was a containment zone leaving the rest of the area free of restrictions, so is the case with the containment zone in the neighbouring ward. He added that DJ Halli has no cause for worry and should not become victim to rumours.

He said only few SK Garden residents, neighbouring DJ Halli were impacted, and DJ Halli has no such cases so far.
