72nd Republic Day: 'Parashurama' roars through Rajpath

The Indian Air Force's vintage aircraft Dakota made a spectacular appearance over the Rajpath during the Republic Day Parade.

Passing by in 'Rudra' formation, the Dakota aircraft rechristened as 'Parashurama' was flanked by two Mi-17 IV helicopters flying in ‘Vic’ formation.

The formation was led by Gp Capt Menon and Wg Cdr SS Gehlot flying the Dakota of the IAF Heritage flight.

The captains of the two helicopters in formation with the Dakota were Wg Cdr Mukul Khare and Sqn Ldr Rathore of 130 Helicopters Unit.

The Dakotas were instrumental in airlifting troops and supplies into the Kashmir Valley to repel invaders from across the border in 1947. They played a significant role in the Tangail air drop leading to the Liberation of Bangladesh.
