Only 1500 buses hit Bengaluru streets post lockdown due to COVID-19
Exercising caution while also catering to the public, the BMTC has deployed 1500 out of 6000 buses in its fleet. The decision to run a limited number of buses post the lockdown was taken after over 150 of its drivers and conductors and other staff contracted COVID-19 and two of them died.
Only 1500 BMTC buses will run in Bengaluru after over 150 of its staff tested positive for COVID-19 and two died. According to BMTC MD C Shikha, to keep the staff and passengers safe, details of those who tested positive have been generated and those in hospital and those under home quarantine are being monitored.
Every passenger who boards a BMTC bus must wear a face mask and a person with fever and cough will be asked to deboard the bus. For passenger safety, buses will not run through containment zones that fall on its dedicated routes.
