Despite increasing number of coronavirus cases in Tamil Nadu, residents of Kancheepuram seem to be totally oblivious to the gravity of the situation. Hundreds were seen defying lockdown and gathering in large numbers at Vardharaja Perumal temple for 'Chitirai festival’ in Kancheepuram.
The Tamil Nadu government has banned all religious congregations in the state. It passed an order stating that rituals and customs be practiced and followed inside temples by priest and family members alone.
Despite lockdown restrictions, hundreds of devotees were seen gathering for the ‘Chitirai festival’ in the temple.
