Cubbon Park pourakarmikas and guards provided grocery kits for regular maintenance during lockdown
The pourakarmikas and guards at Cubbon Park had no liberty to skip work and stay indoors during lockdown as their service was important for maintenance of the park. From cleaning to watering plants, the poor staff did it without taking a break despite hurdles.
Sheer determination and commitment to ensure regular maintenance of Cubbon Park, 60 staff including pourakarmikas and guards were honoured with ration kits and safety equipment like face masks and hand sanitizer.
The Cubbon Park Walker's association member said that the staff had to face inconvenience due to lockdown as they had to report to duty despite no transportation. Many walked to clean and water the plants.
About 70 kits were distributed to such workers. According to Walker's Association president, advocate S Umesh, the pourakarmikas and guards near homes and localities are being taken care but these 60 staff did not get much attention. Realising this section needs attention, the association honoured them.
