BBMP to treat 93 COVID positive pourakarmikas free of cost

As 93 pourakarmikas working in BBMP’s vulnerable areas showed flu-like symptoms, the BBMP Commissioner not only got them tested but after confirming them being positive, has ordered the civic agency to take care of their medical expenses

Bengaluru: Working in Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike’s (BBMP) solid waste management section, the pourakarmikas were most vulnerable to get infected. And with the threat of the coronavirus (COVID-19) looming large, 93 of them have tested positive for the virus. These workers from the most vulnerable areas, said to have shown flu-like symptoms and some had no symptoms at all. Following the BBMP commissioner's order, 94 pourakarmikas were subjected for COVID-19 tests and 93 were confirmed positive. Acknowledging their efforts and realising their financial status, the BBMP’s top boss issued orders to ensure that the medical facilities and expenses are taken care of by the Bengaluru civic agency.
