Police DSP connected to smuggling of idols is absconding

A Deputy Superintendent of Police, suspected of smuggling idols worth nine crore to Thailand, has been reported to be absconded.

In 2008, three idols were found in the village Alampatti near Aruppukottai. It had been reported that those idols were recovered from the land of a villager named Gnana Anbu. Having gathered the information, police officers Khadar Basha, Subburaj and one more official stole the three idols from Gnaa Anbu at gun point.

They were then sold for 15 lakhs to Theenadayalan, who is known as the king of statue smuggling. Later, the idols were smuggled to Thailand with the help of brokers. At present, the market value of the idols is estimated to be Rs 9 crore. No case has been filed in 9 years.

Considering Theenadayalan’s confession as evidence, a complaint has been registered by the Idol Wing of Tamil Nadu. Subburaj, who is now an Assistant Chief Inspector, has been arrested. He is under investigation.

Khadar Basha, who is currently designated as the DSP, has been reported to be absconded. The police officials have quickened the process to find him.
