M B Patil has lost his head says Shamanuru Shivashankarappa

Minister MB Patil, who is in the forefront of agitation demanding an independent religion status for Lingayat and who is pushing for establishing a Lingayat Mahasabha against the existing Veerashaiva Mahasabha has come under verbal attack by the Akhila Bharata Veerashaiav Mahasabha president Shamanuru Shivashankarappa, reports Kannada Prabha.

Both of them belong to the same Siddaramaiah Cabinet and the conflict hitherto behind the curtain has now come out in the open. After calling an emergency meeting of the office-bearers of Veerashaiva Mahasabha on Friday, Shamanuru told mediapersons that “MB Patil has lost his head, he is talking nonsense,” using the singular. “Nobody has threatened anybody. If in case somebody has threatened, ask Patil to file a case,” he said.

At the meeting it was decided that neither the Veerashaivas nor Lingayats go to the media on separate religion status for Lingayats. The Mahasabha has decided to sort out the issue among themselves and not take it to the streets. Shamanuru Shivashankarappa has cautioned the members from making any unnecessary controversy, reports Kannada Prabha.

Meanwhile, Dr Sharana Prakash Patil, Minister for Medical Education attempted, on Friday, to bring peace between the two warring factions Veerashaiva and Lingayat but in vain.

Shamanuru and others had met at an apartment and Shamanuru had asked Dr Sharanaprakash Patil to bring Basavaraja Horatti to the meeting. However, Basavaraja Horatti did not accept the invitation and refused to come to the meeting. He sent a message that he would attend only if the Veerashaiva faction agreed for Lingayat religion. Finally, only Shamanuru Shivashankarappa, Thippanna, Eshwara Khandre and Dr Sharanaprakash Patil held the meeting.
