A 23-year-old newlywed woman died under suspicious circumstances in Uttar Pradesh's Etawah district, barely three months after her marriage. The incident has sparked serious allegations from her family, who claim she was murdered by her husband and in-laws. Police have launched an investigation and detained the woman's father-in-law, while her husband and mother-in-law are reported to be absconding.

Woman Brought to Hospital Unconscious

The deceased, Mona Sankhwar, was a resident of Jaitpur Kala in Agra district. She married Sachin Sankhwar, a resident of Lodhi Mohalla in Etawah, on March 10, 2026, according to a report Dainik Bhaskar. According to police, Mona was brought unconscious to the district hospital by her in-laws on Tuesday evening. They claimed she had died after hanging herself. However, doctors declared her dead after examination.

Medical officials confirmed that marks were found on her neck. The exact cause of death will be confirmed only after the post-mortem report is examined.

Family Accuses In-Laws of Murder

After hearing about Mona's death, her parents and relatives rushed to the hospital. They accused her husband and in-laws of killing her and staging the incident to look like suicide.

The allegations led to a heated argument between both families inside the hospital. As the situation became tense, police teams from the Civil Lines and Kotwali police stations reached the spot and brought the situation under control.

Brother Levels Serious Allegations

Mona's brother, Shivam, alleged that his sister had been facing constant harassment ever since her marriage. He claimed that her husband did not work and stayed at home, while her mother-in-law frequently mistreated her.

He further alleged that Mona was murdered before her body was hanged and claimed that the family was not informed about her death by her in-laws.

Police Begin Investigation

Following the family's complaint, police detained Mona's father-in-law for questioning. Meanwhile, teams have been formed to trace her husband and mother-in-law, who are currently missing.

Police said the body has been handed over to the family after the post-mortem examination. Officers added that the investigation is continuing and that further legal action will depend on the findings of the post-mortem report and other evidence collected during the inquiry.

Authorities have appealed for patience while all aspects of the case are examined.
