The incident unfolded on the night of March 29, where preparations for the April 5 wedding were underway. According to police, the accused, identified as Nargis, conspired with her longtime partner Mohd Rizwan (24), a carpenter, and his associate Junaid Khan. The trio allegedly procured intoxicants and laced them into food served to family members.

Alarmed by the unusual quiet, neighbours entered the residence and found family members lying semi-conscious across the house.

The victims were rushed to a district hospital, where several were reported to be in critical condition.

Police arrested all three accused and presented them before a court, which remanded them to judicial custody.

Circle officer Avadhbhan Singh Bhadauria said, "The woman had been in a relationship with Rizwan for eight to nine years. As her family had arranged her marriage with another man, she decided to elope with her lover after drugging her family. Medical examination has confirmed the use of intoxicants."

Authorities have registered a case under BNS sections 87 (abduction to compel marriage) and 123 (causing hurt by administering poison or intoxicants), as the investigation continues to unravel the disturbing plot.
