Ranchi: Three foreign women associated with the Tablighi Jamaat have got pregnant when they were in a quarantine centre or in judicial custody in Ranchi, according to reports.

The authorities were perplexed as 17 women including their respective husbands were under strict security for 111 days.

Initially, after the issue of Tablighi Jamaat at Nizamuddin Markaz in Delhi hit national headlines, Jamaat attendees were housed at quarantine centres and later sent to jails in various states. Similarly, 17 of them including women were sent to quarantine centres and jail in Ranchi.

It is said the persons either in quarantine centre or in jail are kept in isolation and are not allowed to interact with other inmates and since the pregnancies are said to have taken place during this time, the news comes as a shocker and raises doubts on the authorities.

As per reports, three Tablighi Jamaat women were first housed at a quarantine centre in Khelgaon, Ranchi. Later they were shifted to a prison. These two places are said to be under a strict vigil and ensure the inmates do not come close and meet each other.

Only on Tuesday (July 21) when they were  released on bail with others including their husbands, the authorities who escorted them got to know this.

These 17 foreign nationals including three pregnant women were arrested after they flouted lockdown and visa rules to attend the Tablighi Jamaat event in Delhi on March 30 and were under custody of officials in quarantine centres and jails till July 20.

As one of the women tested positive for COVID-19 at the quarantine centre in Khelgaon, she was sent to treatment at RIMS. After one woman recovered and two others completed quarantine, they along with other members were taken into judicial custody in Khelgaon on April 18.

And on May 20, the Tablighi Jamaat women were shifted to Birsa Munda Central Kara Hotwar jail.

During their medical examination before sending to another jail, it is reported that the three women told the jail authorities about  their pregnancies.
