Soon after the House met in the morning, former Chief Minister Omar Abdullah said the Assembly should pass a resolution for the return of Kashmiri Pandits and other
migrants, rising above party politics.

The working President of National Conference (NC) said 27 years ago "unfortunate" circumstances in Kashmir had forced the migration of Kashmiri Pandit community, members of Sikh community and some Muslims.

As the Question Hour came to an end, Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Abdul Rehman Veeri approved that the resolution should be brought in the House.

Speaker Kavinder Gupta moved the resolution which was passed by voice vote.

It has been 27 years since Kashmiri Pandits fled the valley due to escalating violence directed against them. Earlier in the day, noted Bollywood actor Anupam Kher posted a poem dedicated to them.

Kher, who is a Kashmiri Brahmin himself, says people have been suffering silence and he warned that "these voices will not be silent anymore".

He tweeted: "27yrs on we Kashmiri Pandits are still refugees in our own country. A protest poem about their Silent Scream. Do share."

Former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Omar Abdullah too extended support for Kashmiri Pandits. "27 years is 27 too many," he tweeted.
