Delhi: Unnao rape survivor in critical condition, say Safdarjung Hospital doctors
The Unnao rape victim who was airlifted from Lucknow's SMC government hospital to national capital's Safdarjung Hospital on Thursday night is said to be critical condition and her chances of survival of minimum
New Delhi: The Unnao rape survivor is critical and chances of her survival are less, doctors said on Friday (December 6), a day after she was set ablaze by four men accused of raping her.
“Her present condition is very critical. However, some vitals are functioning fine. But sometimes it deteriorates,” said Dr Sunil Gupta, Medical Superintendent (MS) of Delhi’s Safdarjung Hospital.
“As she has suffered more than 90% of extensive burn injuries, chances of her survival are less. Our Head of Department of Burn and Plastic Department Dr Shalab Kumar is closely monitoring the case,” he added.
The 23-year-old was airlifted from Lucknow's SMC government hospital to national capital's Safdarjung Hospital last night (December 5).
The woman had filed a rape case in March this year, which is under trial at a local court in Unnao, Uttar Pradesh.
According to police, five men, identified as Shubham, Shivam, Harishankar, Umesh and Ram Kishore, had allegedly thrown kerosene on the woman and set her ablaze when she was on her way to the court for a hearing in the rape case.
On Thursday, Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath had taken cognisance of the incident and said that the treatment of the victim will be carried out on the government's expense and strict action will be taken against the accused.
The gruesome incident took place on Thursday morning, when the victim was reportedly on her way to Raebareli for a hearing of the rape case.
Three of the five accused have been arrested and teams have been formed to arrest the other accused, police said.
“The woman was set ablaze by five people, out of which three have been arrested and two are on the run. Teams have been made to nab the other two men,” Unnao SP Vikrant Vir had said on Thursday.
The woman and one of the prime accused in the case had reportedly married last year against the wishes of their families. The couple separated after the families refused to accept their relationship.
