It was just a day before the start of the much-anticipated Aero India 2017, which is currently being held at the Yelahanka Air Force Base in Bengaluru, Indian Navy has apparently rejected indigenously made Tejas for being too heavy.

It is but obvious that the Indian Navy is not really happy with the Indian-made Tejas as they are claiming it to be a tad bit heavier than usual fighter jets. Therefore the Indian Navy is looking for a new foreign fighter jet.

According to reports, The Indian Navy had invited manufacturers 57 to showcase 57 fighter jets for its aircraft carriers. This would have been a multi-billion dollar order that would have gone to the state-run producers of Tejas. But unfortunately, it looks like the deal is going to get bagged by a foreign manufacturer of warplanes.

This proves that India still does not have that infrastructure where they can build or manufacture state-of-the-art warplanes nor do they have the adequate technological aide to make them a reality. Critics have heavily criticized this idea as well.

“It’s been long on ambition short on success. These things are being done because of techno-nationalism. They are done because these countries perceive of themselves as rising powers,” Richard A. Bitzinger, senior spokesperson at Singapore’s S. Rajaratnam School of International Studies was quoted as saying by The Financial Express.

However, the scientists will still showcase Tejas at the Aero Show 2017 from February 14 – 18 in Bengaluru. Sadly, there are only three Tejas aircrafts in service with the Indian Air Force.
