A 17-year-old girl from Andhra Pradesh was reportedly gang-raped by three teens in Berhampur, Odisha, after fleeing her home to avoid sexual abuse by her stepfather. The survivor, who now lives in Andhra Pradesh's Kadapa district, lost her father when she was very little. After her mother remarried, her stepfather allegedly made many sexual passes on her. The stepfather once tried to rape her while she was sleeping. Frightened, the girl escaped her house and boarded the Prashanti Express train, which ultimately arrived in Berhampur.

According to India Today report, upon her arrival, the girl began working at a tea kiosk near the railway station to support herself. It was here that she met a 15-year-old Lanjipalli kid who befriended her through sweet talk. He escorted her to his home, where his family resided. While there, the boy called two of his friends under the pretence of going out.
On March 29, the trio drove the girl to a remote place, put an intoxicating chemical into her meal, and then reportedly gang-raped her. They frequently abused her in various lonely locations. Based on precise information, Gosain Nuagaon police in Ganjam conducted searches at several places and rescued the underage girl.
The Gosain Nuagaon police have filed a complaint against the suspects. The girl's statement has been recorded, and she has undergone medical examination. The three have been detained, and an investigation is ongoing.
Berhampur Superintendent of Police Saravana Vivek M stated three people were arrested. Two of them, ages 23 and 19, were detained, and the 15-year-old youngster was placed in a juvenile home. In addition to a gang rape case under several sections, including provisions of the POCSO Act, police in Andhra Pradesh have filed another complaint against the survivor's stepfather for alleged sexual abuse, which pushed her to flee her home, according to police.
