Jisha Murder: Don't expect a miracle

The Kerala Director General of Police (DGP) Loknath Behera, who took over as the state police chief last week, said a miracle should not be expected in the Jisha murder probe.

After visiting the Dalit law student's home in Perumbavoor on Sunday morning, Behera told media persons that the investigation is progressing in the right direction, and the police are taking scientific help to solve the murder mystery.

"From my personal experience some murders could be solved in 24 hours, and some others can take a year and longer, I strongly believe that this murder can be solved as quickly as possible," said the top police chief.

On Saturday, Behera had met the newly constituted probe team headed by ADGP Sandhya and other officers at the Aluva police club.

Jisha, a 29-year-old law student, was found murdered on April 28 at her home in Perumbavoor by her mother who works as a casual labourer.

The crime has been dubbed "Kerala's Nirbhaya" for its similarities to the 2012 gangrape of a young paramedic student in a moving bus in Delhi.

Though several people have been taken into custody by police for interrogation, the cops are yet to make a breakthrough in the case.
