Islamic State terrorists earlier this week destroyed hundreds of satellite dish antennas after banning them in the Iraqi city of Kirkuk, where violators have been threatened with 50 lashes and fines.

Back in July, the UK-based monitoring group Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) had reported that "ISIS...stepped up its campaign to ban the use of satellite dishes in the territories under its control in Syria and Iraq because they claim to broadcast rumours among Muslims.”

ISIS-affiliated Twitter accounts on August 25 released several photographs from ISIS-controlled areas in Iraq's Kirkuk region showing the Sunni militants destroying hundreds of satellite dishes. One of the images shows satellite dishes being plummeted under road-rollers.

According to local reports, owners of satellite dishes have been threatened with 50 lashes and a fine of 10,000 Syrian pounds by ISIS.

In an earlier ISIS propaganda video, the Sunni terrorist group had said that the satellite TV channels were controlled by "apostates who spread lies and distort the image of Islam."

The terrorist group, which control large areas in Syria and Iraq, said that it wants to stop Muslims from consuming the "un-Islamic" content as "the distorted reality these channels depict, jams the free thinking of Muslims."
