Thiruvananthapuram gold smuggling case accused Swapna Suresh was denied bail by the Ernakulam principal sessions court on August 21
The accused was denied bail in the case registered by the Enforcement Directorate in connection with the gold smuggling case
During the hearing, the court said that individuals who have influence in and outside of the country are involved in the case
The court added that a large gang was involved in the gold smuggling and it demanded to check links of highly placed people in the case
The court refused to dismiss ED’s argument that the gold jewellery and cash kept in the bank locker was black money
Opposing the bail plea, the ED said in the court that further questioning regarding her dealings with former IT secretary M Sivasankar is required
The Kerala gold smuggling scam came to light after the customs department seized 30 kg gold from an air cargo consignment from UAE to the country’s consulate in Thiruvananthapuram on July 5.
