2021 Mercedes-Maybach S580 unveiled, and it redefines luxury
The new Mercedes-Maybach S580 is here. And it is exactly how someone would imagine any Mercedes-Maybach in their dreams -- Luxury on four wheels. Obviously with a price tag of $200,000 or over Rs 1.4 crore, the car is not for everyone. But to be honest, it packs the value and perhaps outdoes itself once again in terms of seven-star luxury on the move.
The new Mercedes-Maybach S-Class combines perfection and high-tech solutions of the only recently presented Mercedes-Benz flagship model with the exclusivity and tradition of Maybach. The exterior design of the new Mercedes Maybach S Class includes a distinctive hood with a chrome fin and bold radiator grille. Moreover, the rear doors and flowing C-pillars -- as well as the light signature -- underline the model's superlative status. The 18 centimetre longer wheelbase compared to the long variant of the Mercedes-Benz S-Class entirely benefits the rear.
Distinguishing features at the front include the distinctive bonnet with a chromed fin and the Mercedes-Maybach radiator grille. This is highly recognisable by its vertical, three-dimensional trim strips. With the new S Class, the Merc redefines the word oppulence. Between the two seats is an optional champagne cooler with sterling silver champagne flutes. Each headlamp has a light module with three extremely powerful LEDs with light that is refracted and directed by 1.3 million micro-mirrors. There is also a wide adjustment range between precise working light and relaxing lounge light.
The Mercedes Maybach S Class is powered by a twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V8 with EQ Boost mild-hybrid technology. This is mated to a nine-speed automatic gearbox unit and produces 496 hp and has 700 Nm of torque. This is supplemented by a 48-volt hybrid system providing up to an additional 21 horsepower.
The Mercedes-Maybach S Class has up to five display screens. Included as standard is a 12.8-inch OLED central display as a high-tech control centre. A 12.3-inch 3D driver display with three-dimensional representation of other road users and pronounced depth and shade effects is available on request. The surrounds of the dial instruments are in the brand colour rosé gold.
The new S Class has the MBUX Interior Assist, which recognises eye direction, hand gestures and the body language of the occupants, so as to assist with automatic vehicle functions as the situation requires. The Mercedes-Maybach S Class is also able to recognise movements and gestures by the rear occupants with the help of 3D laser cameras in the roof liner.
The new S Class promises to be quieter than the earlier. The additional, fixed quarterlights in the C-pillars have thicker laminated glass, as they are in close proximity to the heads of rear passengers. Noise-optimised tyres with foam absorbers are available on request. The company has for the first time used active road noise compensation system, which reduces unwanted low-frequency noises using counter-phased sound waves. The bass speakers of the Burmester high-end 4D surround sound system are used for sound reproduction.
With regard to safety, The S Class comes with innovative rear airbag as standard along with the normal airbags. For the first time, passengers in the rear of the Mercedes-Maybach S-Class will have the benefit of an automatic belt extender. According to Autocar India, in India, the new Mercedes-Benz S Class will only be launched sometime in the second half of 2021, and Mercedes-Benz India is expected to introduce the standard S500 in our market first.
