Bollywood actress Kangana Ranaut set the Ravan effigy ablaze at Lav Kush Ramleela on the occasion of Dussehra. Kangana became the first woman to perform Raavan Dahan at Lav Kush Ramleela in New Delhi.
Kangana Ranaut created history by being the first woman to perform Raavan Dahan at New Delhi's Lav Kush Ramleela, however, she failed to shoot the arrow. The actress was invited to the Ravan Dahan ceremony, which is an important Dussehra tradition. Kangana made her way to the stage, accompanied by her sister Rangoli Chandel.
Kangana wore a beautiful traditional red saree and had her hair in a tight bun for the event. Arvind Kejriwal, the Chief Minister of Delhi, and Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena were also present.
Kangana was seen holding a bow and learning how to shoot an arrow in a video that has now gone viral. Kangana attempted to shoot the arrow three times but failed each time. Her spirits, however, were not dimmed. She yelled 'Jai Shri Ram' while one of the Lav Kush Ramleela Committee members assisted her in shooting the arrow.
A section of social media, especially on Reddit, trolled her for her failed attempt. “This gives me second hand embarassment," a social media user wrote. “So much for being the stunt/action queen of bollywood ," added another. “So painful to watch ," a comment read. “I can’t imagine the kind of anxiety, embarrassment Kanagana must be feeling at that time," a fourth user wrote.
“This was too hard to watch," a user added. “I can’t stop laughing the person who is speaking in the background, putla jalaya jaye. Asatya par satya ki jeet hui hai and this is so funny and embarassing, kangana should have taken YouTube classes," a comment read.
While Kangana was seen doing the Ravan Dahan at Delhi’s largest Ramlila, at the historic Red Fort grounds for its iconic celebrations along with her, CM Arvind Kejriwal and Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena were also present for the festivities, which the Lav Kush Ramlila Committee arranged arranged. Moreover, with this Kangana is the first woman to burn the Ravan effigy at the famous Lav Kush Ramlila, Red Fort ground, Delhi. The actress was also seen chanting “Jai Shree Ram” at the event.
Kangana was asked to perform the Ravan Dahan in honour of the passage of the Women's Reservation Bill last month. Arjun Singh, president of the Delhi Lav Kush Ramleela Committee, spoke about it to PTI, “Be it a film star or a politician, every year we have a VIP grace our event. We have had former President Ram Nath Kovind and Prime Minister Narendra Modi do the honours in the past. Among film stars, Ajay Devgn and John Abraham have been here. Last year, Prabhas did the Ravan Dahan. For the first time in 50 years of our event, it will be a woman who will do the Ravan Dahan."
“Lav Kush Ramleela Committee also wants equal rights for women. Women participation is increasing in every walk of life today, but there is still a long way to go. The bill will help develop the country and society," he added.
Meanwhile, Kangana will be seen in theatres this weekend alongside Tejas. Kangana portrays an Air Force pilot in the film. Sarvesh Mewara wrote and directed Tejas, which was produced by RSVP. The film will be released in cinemas on October 27, 2023.
