If you loved watching the gritty and captivating magnum opus historical fiction period drama helmed by noted filmmaker Mani Ratnam, Ponniyin Selvan 2, here are the seven best Bollywood films in similar historical genres, which are available for watching on Prime Video.

Ponniyin Selvan II has hit the theatres. The film is based on Kalki Krishnamurthy's novel of the same title about the Chola Dynasty, and it picks up where it left off in Ponniyin Selvan I. The first part of this movie series saw massive success at the box office last year and is now available on Amazon Prime Video to watch.

This Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh starrer film is about the trials of inter-faith love between the Maratha Peshwa, Bajirao and a Muslim princess, Mastani.

This Telugu-language historical action film is set ten years before the Sepoy Mutiny. It revolves around the fight Emperor Uyyalawada Narasimha Reddy of the Rayalaseema put up against the atrocities of the British East India Company.

3. Sardar Udham (2021):

We see Vicky Kaushal in the role of Indian revolutionary Udham Singh in this film, who sought revenge on Michael O'Dwyer, Punjab's lieutenant governor, the man responsible for the Jallianwala Bagh massacre.

 

4. Kesari (2019):

Akshay Kumar can be seen in this movie as Havildar Ishar Singh, a soldier in the British Indian Army, who led 21 brave soldiers of the 36th Sikh Regiment and fought against ten thousand tribe members of the Pashtun clan.

5. Shikara (2020):

This is a historical romantic drama set during the exile of the Kashmiri pandits. The film revolves around a couple struggling to find their foot in the chaos and tension during the riots in Kashmir.

 

6. Padmaavat (2018):

This Sanjay Leela Bhansali film saw a lot of controversies before it hit the theatre. It is about Allaudin Khilji's seizure of the Mewar fort. Deepika Padukone is stunning in her performance of Queen Padmaavati.

7. Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi (2019):

This Kangana Ranaut starrer film is about the life of Rani Laxmi Bai, the Queen of Jhansi, a freedom fighter against the British Raj and one of the last monarchs to fight them.
