Former Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharya termed the land movement in Nandigram as a 'crooked screenplay'. He also criticized Trinamool and BJP on various issues.

The Trinamool's Nandigram and Singur movements against forcible land acquisition for industrialization eventually cost Mr. Bhattacharya his job and the communists their 34-year-old government.

In a statement issued on behalf of the CPIM state committee on Monday afternoon, Buddhadeb Bhattacharya did not name anyone but made it clear that he remained steadfast in his position even after 14 years.

On this day Buddhadeb Bhattacharya wrote, “The silence of the crematorium is now in Nandigram and Singur. The conspirators of the crooked screenplay of that time are now splitting into two and throwing mud at each other. The youth society of Bengal has lost the opportunity of employment.”

Claiming that the united front can change the situation in the state, Buddhadeb Bhattacharya called on their candidates to win.

The then Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharya had then said that there was a conspiracy behind the shooting in Nandigram on March 14, 2007. He mourned the death of people in Nandigram. However, the Trinamool claimed that the police had opened fire in Nandigram on the instructions of Buddhadeb Bhattacharya.

Standing for that movement, the Trinamool got a huge majority in the 2009 panchayat elections and the 2011 assembly elections, and the 34 years of left rule came to an end.
