Amritsar: Self-styled godman Nithyananda was recently in the news for kidnapping an Ahmedabad-based girl in Bengaluru. In a similar case, a spiritual leader in Punjab is alleged of influencing a 17-year-old girl from Greater Noida and persuading her to leave her family to join his ashram.

He had told the girl that she cannot be dependent on parents or siblings and they will not be with her till the end. He had asked her to join his ashram and live her life as she wants.

His texts sent under the WhatsApp group 'Truth Seekers' were like brainwashing her.

Believing his words, the girl was all set to leave the house to join ashram when her parents saved her in the nick of time. She is currently being treated by a psychologist.

The incident was reported from Islamabad in Amritsar.
