President Kovind hosts Indian contingent of Tokyo Olympics 2020 over ‘High Tea’

President Ram Nath Kovind on Saturday hosted India’s Tokyo 2020 Olympics contingent over a ‘High Tea’ at the Rashtrapati Bhawan.

The President congratulated the athletes for their stupendous performance at the Tokyo Olympics 2020.

“This team has bagged the highest number of medals for the country in Olympics history. The entire nation is proud of your achievements,” he said.

“We're especially proud of our daughters who displayed world-class performance despite facing many challenges. You gave us a reason to celebrate amid Covid. Sometimes you win and sometimes you lose when you participate in a game but every time you learn a new thing,” he added.

Meanwhile, the Indian contingent has been invited to the Independence Day celebrations at Red Fort where Prime Minister Narendra Modi will meet and interact with the athletes.

The Prime Minister will unfurl the Tricolour tomorrow and address the nation from the ramparts of the iconic Red Fort. After PM Modi's speech, the ministry of defence said, for the first time ever, flower petals will be showered at the venue by two Mi-17 1V helicopters of the Indian Air Force in Amrut formation.

Also, the participants will be hosted at the Prime Minister’s residence after the event.

India had sent the biggest ever contingent at the Tokyo Olympics 2020 with 124 competitors who participated across 18 disciplines.
