The issuance of e-khatas for properties and their subsequent cancellations in five gram panchayats in Bengaluru North taluk is definitely illegal and it has been going on for quite some time now. Believe it or not, this scam runs upto a whopping ₹300 crore.

Initially thousands of properties were registered and later they were cancelled. This disappointed the credulous buyers. At least 6,510 of such cases were found alone in Bengaluru North taluk, where property prices are sky-rocketing.

Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Minister H K Patil confirmed the news to the media personnel on Thursday.

An enquiry has brought these things to light. Records were created only to aid the illegal activities in these areas. When someone purchases a land or a flat in this area, it cannot be considered to be legal even if that person possesses official documents. Because that person would not get to know as the registration can get cancelled.

Patil also confirmed that the government of Karnataka has suspended 15 people. This includes the Bengaluru North taluk panchayat executive officer S R Babu, the presidents and secretaries of the respective gram panchayats. The minister also said that criminal proceedings will be carried out against the people involved in this scam.
