Many people have opened shelter homes, rescue centres and pet treatment centres. Of late, there is a trend of people adopting dogs from rescue homes instead of buying them for their breed. A great lot of noble-minded people in Bengaluru doing great work have contributed to the housing and care of abandoned animals. Here are five centres that you need to visit if you are a pet lover. Who knows you might fall in love with a rescued pet, give it a home and be its family!

1) CUPA – Compassion Unlimited Plus Action

Location: RT Nagar

CUPA was the animal shelter of Bengaluru started by Crystal Rogers, who had relocated from Britain to India. The place also works as a rescue centre for animals where the injured are treated. Apart from this, services like animal birth control, trauma and rescue, geriatric care and adoption facilities are also available. The centre also provides foster care for pets if the owners are away for a few days.

2) KRUPA - Animal Hospital and Shelter

Location: Kengeri Satellite Town

This facility was started as a hospital for dogs. But currently, it operates as a rescue house not only for canines, but also for cats. It is now a full-fledged animal hospital and shelter. Volunteers rescue cats and dogs that are abandoned and injured. They also encourage people to adopt pets from their facility.

3) Karuna Animal Shelter

Location: Hebbal

Karuna is an animal welfare centre in Bengaluru undertaking animal rescue and rehabilitation operations. The facility also creates awareness among people on how to take care of pets. They have a night emergency ambulance service. Karuna also has snake-care service.

4) Animal Rights Fund

Location: Gandhi Nagar

Collecting funds to finance animal relief programs in Bengaluru is the primary aim of Animal Rights Fund. What makes this facility special is that it has won legal battles and has prevented the exploitation of animals in circuses. It also has a helpline for animal-related emergencies and works as a shelter for pets.

5) Sarvodaya Sevabhavi Samstha

Location: Mahalakshmipuram

Sarvodaya Sevabhavi started by like-minded veterinary doctors to rescue and treat injured animals. The centre also provides services to adopt pets. Animal birth control program is one of their important works and they have sterilized many dogs across the city.
