The gang-rape case of a minor Dalit girl in Vijayapur in Karnataka, who later succumbed to injuries, has got a major twist, with the accused allegedly being identified as a BJP worker.

Among the six men accused of brutally raping the 14-year-old girl, one has been identified as a young BJP worker, who used to hang sout with the BJP Palike members in Vijayapur.

Sagar led the collection of donation for the Ganesh festival and was also active for the implementation of Swacch Bharat campaign in Vijayapur, which was undertaken under the leadership of  BJP leader Prakash Kadakola.

It should be noted that the BJP leaders including Shobha Karandlaje, Ananth Kumar Hegde, Pratap Simha and others who supported protests demanding justice for Paresh Mesta, who was killed in Honnavar, have been silent about the gang-rape case.

After facing criticism, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, visited the family, consoled them and has promised to hand over the case to the CID. The government has announced a compensation of Rs 8.25 lakh and has already handed over a cheque of Rs 4,12,500 to the victim's family.

Meanwhile, reports claim district lawyers have decided to fight the case of the minor girl, and lawyers have been advised not to take up the case of the accused.

Among the six accused, two are minors. According to reports, four accused have been arrested and two prime accused are yet to be held.
