They were not the regular bike lifters. They learnt the tricks on YouTube and were successful in their "trade". So far, they had stolen at least 50 bikes in various parts of the city. But their luck ran out when they were trapped by the police in the guise of rag-pickers, on June 25.

The police have arrested Prabhu of Dodda Nagamangala, Arun Sai, Kartik and another whose identity is yet to be established, reports Suvarna News. The police have seized 28 two-wheelers worth Rs 30 lakh from the accused, reports Suvarna News quoting DCP Boralingaiah.

The police were flooded with the complaints of bike theft from Koramangala, Madiwala, Electronic city, HSR layout and surrounding areas. The police's effort to crack the story with the help of CCTV did not yield much. But it was the timing of the theft that was similar in almost all the cases. The bikes were stolen between 3 am and 6 am. With this clue, the police formed three teams with 24 staff to hunt the bike-lifters.

The police personnel in the guise of rag-pickers began to roam the marked streets to find the clue. On June 25, they nabbed Arun Sai who was trying to steal the bike around 5 am. Later, the police arrested the members of the gang.

It is said that the all the four would meet up in the evening and enjoy drag race. Since their poor family background did not allow them to buy two-wheeler, they resorted to "easy way out, courtesy, youTube." According to Suvarna News, they would break the bike's handle and also cut the ignition wire which would allow them to drag the vehicle . They would later sell those bikes to cheaper rates to their friends. They had even sold Rs 1.5 lakh worth bullet to a mere Rs 10,000. They would splurge the money on themselves, said the police.
