Citing irregularities in land allotment to builders during the tenure of former CM Bhupinder Singh Hooda, the Supreme Court on Wednesday has ordered a CBI probe into the incident.

As per a report, the SC bench comprising Justice UU Lalit, Ajay Rastogi and Aniruddha Bose issued the order following amicus curiae Jaideep Gupta's report.

Gupta had contended that 422 acres of land to Uddar Gagan Properties Ltd was given by 'unfair means' and demanded a CBI probe into the incident as no officials were brought under the rule book during the state-owned agencies probe then.

“This court delivered a judgment in 2016, and five years down the line, we are still groping in the dark. We wanted the fraud to be unearthed, and we wanted those involved to be proceeded against. But the whole thing looks like a subterfuge now,"  The Supreme Court made this observation in a report.

In the year 2002, the Haryana government had a proposal to acquire 850 acres for building residential and commercial sectors in Rohtak by Haryana Urban Development Authority. But HUDA acquired only 441 acres for the project and awarded 288 acres of land to builders to develop the project. To execute the project, the builder entered into agreements with landowners and farmers whose land was under acquisition in 2005.

While the builder was getting ready to build colonies after applying for the license, the Punjab and Haryana High Court had set aside the decision of the project. The court observed that the officials in order to help the real estate developers had ignored the public.
