BJP national president JP Nadda on Monday (October 19) asked party leaders in North Bengal to reach out to different communities and apprise them of several schemes rolled by the Narendra Modi government.

The Rajbanshi population has for long been demanding Narayani Sena regiment on the lines of the one that existed in the Cooch Behar kingdom.

There are indications of a new conflict between the state and the center before the Assembly polls because the Trinamool government had earlier claimed that the BSF was training the Narayani Sena.

JP Nadda was in charge of the North Bengal elections during the 2019 Lok Sabha polls. At that time, JP Nadda promised to recognize the Narayani Sena regiment on the lines of the one that existed in the Cooch Behar kingdom. He assured the Rajbanshis while visiting the cyclone-hit areas. On Monday (October 19), the Rajbanshis approached the BJP all-India president.

The Rajbanshis demanded the recognition of the new Narayani Sena. Assuring them, the BJP president said, "This is a long-standing demand of yours. We are taking the matter seriously.”

In 2016, a center-state conflict was created over the Narayani army training camp. The Greater Kochbihar People's Association conducted a separate training program in the name of Narayani Sena Regiment. But the district administration of Coochbehar canceled their program. On the other hand, it was alleged that Narayani Sena was being trained by the BSF. Narayani Sena's demand for recognition has resurfaced before the Assembly polls.
