Mumbai, which is still reeling from the Covid outbreak, increased dengue hospitalizations in August compared to the previous month. According to the BMC, more than 132 individuals required hospitalization after testing positive for dengue, up from 28 the last month, with officials expecting the figure to be higher because not all private admissions are reported.

According to media sources, the BMC claimed the majority of cases were discovered in F south (Parel, Sewri, Naigaum), B (Dongri, Umarkhadi), and H west (Bandra, Khar, and Santacruz); however, no deaths have been reported as a result of the vector-borne disease.

According to the pesticide department, 13,15,373 homes were inspected, with 11,492 dengue breeding sites eliminated. Dr Mangala Gomare, executive health officer at BMC, said the rise was typical between August and September. Anyone experiencing symptoms such as fever, headache, rashes, muscular discomfort, or joint pain should visit a doctor.

The incidence of Monsoon-related illnesses has increased this year as a consequence of relaxations in lockdown-related restrictions, which resulted in people's freedom of movement following the flattening of the Covid-19 curve during the second wave.

While a series of combat measures have been implemented in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) and the Pune Metropolitan Region (PMR), the Public Health Department is also focusing on the Western Maharashtra districts of Kolhapur, Sangli, and Satara, as well as the Konkan districts of Raigad and Ratnagiri, which were affected by massive floods.
