ABVP had an unlikely opposition in the form of Gurmehar Kaur, the 20-year-old student from Lady Shri Ram College for Women, when the Ramjas College incident happened.

The placard bearing activist divided the nation in their opinions. Some called her anti-national and some like Virender Sehwag took offence and said, "I did not score triple cen my bat did'. There were even , people calling her all sorts of names and some even asking that she be sent to Pakistan.

BJP MP Pratap Simha in fact, went as much as to compare her with Dawood Ibrahim, the notorious underworld don. He said, "At least Dawood did not use the crutches of his father's name to justify his anti-national stand."

Finally, when things were getting too ugly and the threats did not stop, the 20 -year-old saying 'there is only so much my 20-year-old self can take'.

The trolls and naysayers rejoiced in snuffing out the spirit of freedom in her and the courage to be dissentful. But Gurmehar stepped back but did not yield. She showed great maturity in understanding that it was not she had set out for.

Now in a blogpost she gives a fitting reply to all those who called her anti-national and cast aspersions on her father's name, her intentions and her purpose. She ends a hard-hitting post with the words : I am not your martyr's daughter.
