What is the secret of this code?

You'll find this code, like B-27 or D-28, on one of the metal strips. The letter marks the quarter of the year, and the number is the year itself. A is for Jan-Mar, B for Apr-Jun, C for Jul-Sep, and D for Oct-Dec. So, a cylinder marked 'C-26' must go for testing between July and September 2026. It's a detail most of us miss.

Why is safety testing necessary?

Indian Oil says that LPG cylinders are made from very strong steel and pass tough quality checks. However, regular testing is mandatory to check for wear and tear over time. A new cylinder gets its first test after 10 years, and then every 5 years after that. Unsafe cylinders are taken out of service for good, while safe ones get a new test date and are sent back for delivery.

Cylinder Delivery: What should you do?

So, next time a cylinder arrives, don't just check the weight and seal. Look at the test due date on the top. If the date has already passed, you should not accept that cylinder. Also, if you see too much rust, dents, or any damage, point it out to the delivery person and ask for a replacement. This simple check is a safety measure that can prevent major accidents.
