Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose’s birthday to be celebrated as 'Parakram Diwas’ every year
The Government of India has decided to celebrate the birthday of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose as 'Parakram Diwas' every year.
A statement issued by the central government said, “To honour and remember Netaji’s indomitable spirit and selfless service to the nation, the Government of India has decided to dedicate his birthday every year as Parakram Diwas.”
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has long been talking to the Center about declaring a national holiday on Netaji's birthday. But the central government did not care much about this. Significantly, the Center chose to dedicate a day to Netaji just a few months before the Bengal Assembly elections.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to visit West Bengal on January 23 to attend Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose’s birth anniversary celebrations at the Victoria Memorial in Kolkata.
Last year, the Government decided to constitute a High-Level Committee to commemorate the 125th Birth Anniversary of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose.
The High-Level Committee will decide on the activities for a one-year-long commemoration starting 23rd January, 2021.
