A man was beaten with brooms by both his wife and mother-in-law. Unable to digest this public shame, the man came home and locked from inside and later found hanging from a ceiling
After not allowing a 45-year-old man to see his daughter, the man’s wife and his mother-in-law caught hold of him and allegedly beat him with brooms in full public view in West Bengal's Alipurduar. Following this public humiliation, the man committed suicide by hanging.
The victim was identified as Soumitra Adhikari whose body was found hanging from the ceiling of his house in Jashodanga village in Shamuktala police station area when police went to the spot after the matter was reported.
Later, the deceased's mother filed a complaint against her daughter in-law and her mother for physical assault, and prevented him from meeting his daughter when he had gone to Majidkhana village and humiliated him which lead to his suicide.
The complaint states that, soon after Adhikari returned home, he narrated the incident to his mother and looked depressed. Later, he went to his room and locked himself. Later his body was found hanging from the ceiling.
After the postmortem, police handed over the body to his family. No arrests have been made so far.
